‘Hart of Dixie’ season 3, episode 17 review: Do you buy Lemon – George story?

What is she up to? -To an extent, “Hart of Dixie” is getting closer to being the story that so many fans wanted it to be. This is at least true when it comes to the Zoe Hart character, who is now single and away from the pretty nice guy that was Joel. He just wasn’t the right nice guy for her.

The best part of Friday night’s episode was the emphasis on the friendship between Zoe and Lavon, who are the twosome on the show we enjoy the most. Why? They’re not trying to hook up all the time! It’s nice to not have that from time to time on a show that sometimes goes so far with romance that it turns it into a clutch.

Then, the downside of the story: Lavon and Zoe spent part of this episode distracting themselves from their own romantic woes by helping out Lemon and George … the couple that we really are struggling to buy. They’re likable characters, but remember the history? Remember how Lemon wasn’t exactly faithful, or that George more or less left her at the altar and embarrassed her in front of everyone in BlueBell? That is huge baggage; we know that time has passed, but the way in which the past has been addressed / not addressed right now is troubling. It’s not revisionist history, but it’s close.

Also, we’re hit-or-miss on the Vivian / Wade story right now. Their plots are pleasant, but it feels like the show isn’t in a hurry to do anything one way or the other. It’s just one-note, and if Wade is going to leave her or she is going to leave him, there aren’t any signs.

So while we enjoyed this episode when it comes to laughs and smiles, the show actually made us think about things and whether or not we believed them. When we watch “Hart of Dixie,” “thinking” shouldn’t be high on the to-do list. Grade: C+.
