‘American Idol’ invites President Obama to sing duet with Al Green

Fans want to see Obama on Idol

Last week President Barack Obama was speaking to a crowd at the Harlem Apollo Theater in New York City for a fundraiser and during his speech, Obama broke into song and began his rendition of the Al Green hit ‘Let’s Stay Together’.  What was more shocking then seeing the president singing during a speech was that he was actually pretty great at it.

One person that was truly impressed by the President’s singing prowess was ‘American Idol’s’ executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe who has now extended an invitation to Obama to come and perform ‘Let’s Stay Together’ with Al Green on the show.

Lythgoe reached out to President Obama on Monday through his Twitter account and asked him to consider coming on the show for a special duet.  Nigel wrote; “@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we’d love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green.”

While it’s unlikely that Obama will take Nigel up on the invitation, fans are rallying together to try to make it happen through various social networking sites.

Check out the video below of President Obama singing ‘Let’s Stay Together’ and let us know if you would like to see him singing on the ‘American Idol’ stage or if you think that this would be a terrible career move for him.
