Mrs. Carter: What is it with pregnant women, “The X Factor” UK, and serious backlash?
This has been a strange trend that we have witnessed over the past several months, and it began with Miss Dynamix member SeSe Foster announcing that she was expecting during the middle of the singing competition. Thanks to this, it was not that much longer until the headlines came out, along with the criticism regarding whether or not she should be on the show anymore after Miss Dynamix got a free pass to the next round when she was ill. So now, the reigning champion Sam Bailey is having to deal with something very similar following the news stories that she is expecting her third child with her husband Craig Pearson. It’s hard to really figure out just why there is backlash to something like this (she’s not even competing on the show anymore AND it’s her third child!), but it is backlash nonetheless and something that she has had to deal with.
Speaking in a new interview with OK! Magazine, the singer tried to describe her emotions following the experience with this quote:
“I’ve had some negativity about my pregnancy – but I’ll prove I can still have my career. I’m always going to be working, no matter what. I’m living proof you can do it.”
Sam has a new album coming out a little later in the month entitled “The Power of Love,” which will be a mixture of popular covers along with all-new material. She is still going to have the time needed to promote that, but there are some changes to her schedule that will need to be made in order to accommodate the her pregnancy.
It’s amazing that there are still those that believe that pregnancy means that women can’t work or pursue their dreams. Pregnant women work all the time, right up until it’s time to give birth and with a job like Sam’s which requires some creative song writing, why can’t she be at home with baby and write some new tunes? She already took care of two other children while on the show, what’s so different now?
While we await more news and music from Sam, the next season of “The X Factor” is already in the planning stages. Cheryl Cole is back as a judge, and there is talk around Olly Murs joining her.
