Casting scoop: Matt Bomer to ‘Glee,’ David Arquette to ‘Cougar Town’

Blaine’s getting a brother…

With the February sweeps hastily approaching, it’s safe to say that some shows are desperate to bring out the stars. We have some breaking casting stories coming out on Friday, and the two most-notable ones involve some rather lucky connections between people on the show and the stars being recruited.

A dose of “White Collar” on “GleeTVLine first reported that Matt Bomer is set to join the Fox juggernaut for an episode later this season, and he’ll be playing none other than … Blaine’s brother!

We don’t really know anything about Bomer’s character just yet, but then again we don’t know a ton about Blaine. It is nice, though, to see that not every student in New Directions is an only child, and we’re hoping for a number of other secret siblings that can be played by stars. (For a while, it was rumored that Pitbull was going to play Santana’s brother, but nothing ever really materialized there.)

Bomer has a connection with show co-creator Ryan Murphy, who has cast him in his upcoming feature film adaptation for “The Normal Heart.” This episode does not have an airdate as of yet, but the earliest we could feasibly see Bomer’s character would be February 21 — after all, Darren Criss is not even going to be in the other two episodes airing in early February thanks to his Broadway commitments.

Another guest star!

David’s spending more time with Courteney – Only a matter of minutes after the “Glee” story, TVLine also posted that David Arquette would be making a guest appearance on the season 3 finale for “Cougar Town,” which is currently expected to air in May.

Arquette has kept a close relationship with his estranged wife Courteney Cox ever since the two separated in late 2010, and she even visited him throughout his run on “Dancing with the Stars.” Here, the actor will play a concierge worker at a hotel that may conceivably be holding another big [spoiler!] event … the wedding for Jules and Grayson!

Thanks in part to the complete and utter failure that was “Work It” (which may be the only time we have ever thanked this show for anything), “Cougar Town” will return to ABC on Valentine’s Day to give us something to swoon about.

Other casting notes

-Kevin Weisman (“Alias”) is set to appear on the upcoming NBC drama “Awake.” (Entertainment Weekly)

-“Person of Interest” has found a new subject-of-the-week in “Friday Night Lights” star Matt Lauria. (TVLine)

-When it comes to reality casting, rumor has it that Jillian Harris is being considered to host the Canadian version of “The Bachelor.” Harris was the star of the show in summer 2009, but her engagement to Ed Swiderski to not work out. She has gone to appear in other shows on ABC and HGTV Canada, so there is some TV experience here outside of awkwardly trying to hand out roses to relative strangers. (In an email to the Calgary Herald, Harris says that she has not been asked yet to take the job.)

This version of “The Bachelor” will premiere on station CityTV in the fall. There are currently no plans for the show to air in America.
