NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Christina Aguilera pregnant, and season 7 gets more complicated

Christina AguileraMrs. Carter: Great news from the world of Christina Aguilera!

It was not that long ago that we first brought you the news that the “Beautiful” singer / coach on “The Voice” was engaged to her longtime boyfriend Matt Rutter; now, we can tell you that the two are expecting their first child together. (Christina already has a son from a previous marriage to Jordan Bratman.) Details are still early about the pregnancy, but we will have some more news on it as it becomes available.

What is going to be particularly interesting about this from a TV standpoint, though, is what it means for the future of “The Voice.” Let’s assume that Christina followed the standard pregnancy rule of waiting three months before announcing the big news publicly. That means that she is probably set to be due in around August, which is a month before the show premiered. If you have the “Voice” live shows in late October and film the blind auditions a good while in advance, it’s possible that you could make this work (since the show did something similar with Shakira); however, that would really make things complicated, and Christina may want more time off understandably after welcoming a new child.

This upcoming fall season of “The Voice” is already in flux, given the recent headlines that Cee Lo Green is not going to be a part of the show anymore following an announcement made on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” earlier this week that he was out. This could, in the worst-case scenario, lead to NBC either having to beg Usher and Shakira to do the fall season in addition to the spring, or get them to cast two new coaches. They’ll probably have to do that in time, anyway, given that Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will probably not be around forever.
