Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, more wish Jimmy Fallon luck on ‘Tonight Show’ debut
Tonight, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” kicks off on NBC, and we are getting set for what is going to be a pretty substantial day of coverage all around the show. We’ll have a print review of the first episode up a little bit later tonight, and in addition to that, we’re also going to be podcasting immediately after this episode about everything that Jimmy brings to the table. (You can head over to this link and refresh around 1:00 a.m. Eastern if you want to see it.)
For starters, it genuinely feels like Jimmy is getting a good deal of support and well-wishes surrounding his 11:34 p.m. arrival from some of his other late night buddies, and nobody really seems to have a bad thing to say him at all. (This serves as a nice little contrast to Jay Leno, since pretty much everyone has already made it rather clear how they feel about him.)
Conan O’Brien – “As the only man alive who’s hosted The Tonight Show & Late Night, I want to congratulate @JimmyFallon & @SethMeyers. They’ll both do great!” (Seth responded to this by saying “an honor to follow in your footsteps! Also, I somehow locked myself in a janitor’s closet. Send help?”)
Jimmy Kimmel – “Congratulations @jimmyfallon – I look forward to doing this side-by-side until our suits look funny and our hair turns white #FalPals”
Gloria Fallon (Jimmy’s sister, who also writes with him for TV) – “Once again, I’m disappointed in the “Sibling Congratulations on Taking Over The Tonight Show” section at Hallmark. #FallonTonight”
All in all, there seems to be a decent amount of buzz about the show tonight, and we expect somewhat-decent ratings when you remember that there is going to be an enormous lead-in courtesy of the Sochi Games.
