‘Chuck’ entering the home stretch, regaining geek momentum

Returning to form!

Whenever a show enters its last season, it’s inevitable that you are going to go into it feeling a bit nostalgic at times — so when the show is really around thanks just to efforts from the fans, that nostalgic feeling can occasionally turn into spontaneous weeping intermittently mixed with cheers that the show even made it this far.

Chuck” is by and large the people’s show, and in just a few days we will be entering its last month on NBC. We’ve caught the show from the beginning, and found it to be both current (as in perfect for that geek niche that’s popular in modern entertainment) but at the same time a throwback to some great action shows of the past. There are few shows that combine so many genres, and few that leave you with a great feeling.

Unfortunately, earlier this season there were some bumps that brought up questions as to whether or not there would be a happy ending. Everyone knew that Morgan wouldn’t have the intersect forever, so the entire “frosted tips” storyline didn’t really need to be there. Then again, it also took “Chuck” a few episodes to get really going back in seasons 3 and 4. As soon as the supercomputer left Morgan’s brain, things picked up — culminating with an excellent Christmas episode that brought Daniel Shaw back from the presumed dead. We also had some fun guest spots in here from Carrie-Anne Moss, Rebecca Romijn, and even briefly “Community’s” Danny Pudi as a Buy More “replacement” for Lester.

Now, we are nearing the end. The revelation involving Sarah and a baby (whatever this means) during Friday’s new episode is inevitably going to set things in motion for the rest of the series, and hopefully somewhere in the midst of this we get another big bad for our imperfect spy to face up against.

You can check out a promo for “Chuck vs. the Baby” below, but the most important thing you can do is check out the actual episode. We know it’s airing the day before New Year’s Eve — but the party will still be there afterward, right?
