Mrs. Carter: Kerry Washington could only avoid talking about her pregnancy for so long.
For much of the fall, even after the news was revealed that Kerry and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha were expecting their first child together, the star of “Scandal” was still extremely mum on the details. Even when she had the perfect opportunity to announce it while hosting “Saturday Night Live” last fall, she decided instead to keep the focus entirely about the comedy.
All of this changed when Kerry made an appearance at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, with one of the primary reasons for that being that unless she either talked to nobody or didn’t walk the red carpet, it would be very hard to hide it at this point. In the end, Kerry decided to do both! She wore a gown that did allow her a chance to show off a baby bump, and she also spoke with Ryan Seacrest on the E! pre-show all about the new addition in her family: “I feel like I have the best date of the night [in] my little accessory here.” (Really? A baby is an accessory?)
Kerry is going to be busy for much of the next few months continuing to film new episodes of “Scandal,” but in case you did not know, the show is being trimmed down to 18 episodes this season rather than 22 in order to accommodate it. She is expected to give birth this spring, and it is likely that Washington will be able to return to work a little bit later this year in order to start work on “Scandal” season 4. There hasn’t been an official renewal yet by ABC, but it feels obvious that it’ll be coming back. It’s a huge force in the ratings, has critical acclaim, and has a dedicated following.
