While Smith’s Doctor was the first nearly-classic Doctor we’ve seen in the modern era (11 seems to have gotten a lot of inspiration from 2, from what little of Troughton’s run I’ve been able to watch), but I do agree, I think Capaldi will take cues from the First, maybe Third, and certainly Fourth Doctors. Especially considering that, though we’ve not seen it, he’s described himself as having “No regrets, no tears, and no anxieties” about his final costume. I really hope that was a clue, and not just him being a fan.

Regardless, Capaldi is a brilliant actor, and though he gets some flak, I think Moffit is a wonderful showrunner for Who. Series 8 is going to be incredible.
