Mrs. Carter: Was Lorne Michaels the Will Smith to Jimmy Fallon’s Kevin James?
It’s a little bit of a stretch to make the “Hitch” analogy fully, since it’s not like the “Saturday Night Live” executive producer was a date doctor to Jimmy during his early days on the show. However, he was an enormous part of his life who not only helped him start to become immersed in show business, but also was valuable in making sure he knew the right people to surround himself with an even date.
The following excerpt was taking out of an interview Fallon gave to Vanity Fair, where he was promoting his transition to “The Tonight Show” starting on February 24:
“Lorne helped me with everything — with relationships, with me getting famous. I was going through certain steps, and there were certain things I couldn’t talk to my dad about, because he wouldn’t know. … Like ‘I have money now. Do I still rent? Do I buy an apartment?’ Or ‘I’m in L.A., and I have to rent a car.’ … Or ‘Should I date this actress?’”
Fallon is now married to film producer Nancy Juvonen, and has been since 2007. The two also have a daughter together.
In this interview, Jimmy also details how he felt lost and was “probably drinking more than I should have” during his time trying to make it as a film star, which was around the time that the idea started to firm up that Jimmy replace Conan O’Brien thanks to the skill set that he honed on the Saturday sketch show for so many years.
With Jimmy’s transition to “The Tonight Show,” Seth Meyers is going to take his place as the new host of “Late Night” on the same day.
