It looks like Thanksgiving weekend is going to be quite a busy one at the box office — but by the time the dust clears, some familiar faces from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Part 1)” are probably still going to be #1.
Based on some early estimates, the newest installment in the popular franchise is set to properly gross around $55 million for the frame, though this could end up being higher. Meanwhile “The Muppets” is set to finish #2 with a number close to $40 million. Considering that the Jason Segel-led revival of the popular characters cost only $45 million to make, we have a feeling that we will be seeing plenty more of Kermit and Miss Piggy moving forward.
As for some of the other releases out there, both “Happy Feet Two” (in its second weekend) and “Arthur Christmas” are going to be battling out for #3 and an opening in the $20 million range over five days. As for the only other major new release, Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo,” is likely to pull in between $12-13 million — though this is still a victory, since it is playing in far fewer theaters than any of its competition.
Are you planning to check out any movies over the holiday?
