Mrs Carter: Charlize has been a relationship junkie for 17 years, drunk on love.
One thing that Charlize Theron is not used to is being single and for the first time in 17 years the actress is experiencing what it’s like to be on her own.
While speaking to Vogue, Theron revealed that she has jumped from relationship to relationship only taking maybe a month break in between. She said;
“I’ve never been single. This is the first time in my life. From the time I was 19, I’ve been in relationships, literally gone from one to the other within a month.”
Theron split from her nine year relationship with Stuart Townsend in January of 2010 and moved into working on the film ‘Young Adult’ almost right away. Charlize admits that working on the film really helped her move in a different direction. She said;
“I really, really missed it. Like around week three, I had this horrible, sappy moment where I got a little overwhelmed. It was just a really great [expletive] experience. I’d gotten out of a relationship, and I was in this really floaty place. My feet weren’t touching the ground. I just kind of turned to [director Jason Reitman] and was like, ‘I feel like me again.'”
When her relationship with Townsend initially started going south, Theron admits that she did everything she could to save the relationship. She said;
“It was sinking, and I had to give it a fight. I really wanted to try and make it work. That was the priority. I wouldn’t do it any different way.”
While being in a great relationship certainly has its perks, there’s something to be said for giving yourself a little time in between relationships to let yourself heal, otherwise aren’t you really just dating the same person over and over again, but in a different body?
