After six months of being together and more time before that claiming that they were nothing more than “friends,” the longtime “Dancing with the Stars” pro (who appeared earlier this season as a judge on the show) and the Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model, arguably one of the most famous in the entire world right now, have called it quits. While representatives for the dancer refuse to comment on the state of his personal life, a source close to the pair offered up the following to Us Weekly:
“They are really good friends still and speak all the time, but their schedules just made it too difficult and it fell apart. [Chmerkovskiy] has a lot of respect for her, but it just wasn’t working anymore.”
Maks does have a pretty lengthy dating history at this point, including an engagement to fellow “Dancing with the Stars” pro Karina Smirnoff (which eventually fell through) and also a relationship with another one in Peta Murgatroyd that was his major relationship in between Karina and Kate. He is also the former star of the Ukrainian version of “The Bachelor,” but has since said that he regrets the whole experience immensely and wished that he could take back being a part of it (guess 25 gorgeous women scratching each others eyes out for a shot a Maks isn’t enough for him.)
There is no word yet one way or another on what will happen next with Maks and “Dancing with the Stars,” since it typically happens on a seasonal basis. While we feel like it’d be smart to get him back for the sake of attracting viewers, he and ABC may not have the same priorities in mind or there could be other issues (like scheduling) that could keep it from happening.
For now, what’s your reaction to the breakup, and were you surprised that Maksim and Kate dated in the first place? Sound off in the comments below!
