‘Dancing with the Stars’ 17: Maksim Chmerkovskiy reportedly will guest judge
Suddenly, “Dancing with the Stars” has just come up with an extremely compelling right (other than the contestants) to watch the new edition of the show next week: Maksim Chmerkovskiy will be coming back, but not in a capacity of pro dancer.
According to TMZ, Maks is going to be joining the semifinals judging panel next week as a guest judge, and someone who is probably going to be more than honest when it comes to all of the performances. This is something that he claimed he would be interested in recently if he was ever asked to do it, and it comes after Julianne Hough fulfilled a similar position on the show earlier this season. (This was before that whole “Orange is the New Black” catastrophe at Halloween.)
As for whether or not Maks is the right man for the job, we at least know that he will be thoroughly entertaining and probably fight with the other judges. After all the times that he has fought with them (remember the “this is my show” rant?), this is an opportunity for him to fight back and actually give the shows that he wants to give. With all of this being said, we would not be too thrilled to be one of the other professionals this season finding out that you are about to be judged by not only an opinionated guy who has worked with them, but someone who actually has never won the show before. At least Julianne had some trophies to her name.
But the flip side to Maks is that he knows ballroom dance better than anyone, and has been actively involved with it even though he has not been a pro dancer on the show in two seasons now. His brother Val has also been eliminated already with Elizabeth Berkley, so there will not be any real fears of nepotism (though he is close with Tony Dovolani).
During Julianne’s tenure as judge, she stirred up controversy by suggesting that Mark Ballas tends to steal the spotlight of those he dances with. Who knows what sort of trouble Maks could get in on the show?
