‘Arrow’ season 2, episode 3 preview: Lance vs. the Dollmaker (video)

Take a look -Who is the latest DC Comics villain to come on board “Arrow“? It’s none other than the Dollmaker, which helps to explain perfectly why Wednesday night’s episode is entitled “Broken Dolls.” This is a particularly terrifying character who has been seen over time in several iterations in the DC universe, including an appearance in Detective Comics and also as an enemy of Plastic Man. In bringing the character on here, the show is really honoring their roots.

The “Arrow” version of the character definitely has some mad scientist tendencies going on, as his evil scheme appears to be turning actual human beings into dolls. This is going to be a tricky conundrum for not just Oliver, but also the one-time Detective Lance to figure out. This character in particular is someone that you’re going to see a great deal of on this upcoming episode, as you start to learn more and more about his past, and who he is away from just his family. Given that the writing has gotten better and better for him over the past year, we’re excited.

Don’t expect this Lance episode to be one of the only instances this season of some supporting characters getting more of their due. We’re also expecting a Diggle-centric episode in a few weeks, and the arrival of Barry Allen is going to give Felicity so much more to do beyond just serving as Oliver Queen’s new “executive assistant.” While some may want all Oliver, all of the time, we’re excited for an opportunity to get to know some of the others a little better. It’s only going to add to the richness of the world.

As for the future of the Dollmaker, we don’t know if it is a good idea to expect to see the character in more than just this one episode. Given that there has not been much said about him until now, it’s likely that he’s not going to make too much of a difference in the long term.

Want to preview this “Arrow” episode, and the rest of the season, even further? We’ve got a few new comments from Emily Bett Rickards about Felicity here, and they should make some of you who ship her and Oliver pretty happy.
