‘Motive’ season 2 coming to ABC in summer 2014, joins renewed ‘Mistresses,’ ‘Rookie Blue’

The latest -ABC has once again set up their slate of summer scripted programming, and it is going to contain quite a few familiar (and Canadian) faces.

After the news recently that their original property “Mistresses” and the Global product “Rookie Blue” were each coming back for another season, the network confirmed today that “Motive,” which aired first on CTV earlier this year, will be coming back again for the summer. Like with this year, the premiere in America will be months after when it came on north or the border, but it’s hard to see that making too big of a difference when it comes to the viewers who watch it.

“Motive” did not necessarily draw huge ratings for ABC over the summer (in just a 1.2 in the 18-49 demographic), but we see the reason for the renewal simply as a recognition that they don’t want to burn out repeats of their own properties, and this show is still much cheaper than what it would cost to create an original show with rating that may not be that much higher. An “Under the Dome” sort of success is not something that comes around very often at all.

With this renewal, “Whodunnit?” is left as the only major ABC show that is still very much in limbo, and we will probably not stop campaigning for the brilliant little murder-mystery gem until it is renewed, or the nail is in the coffin. Heck, we even spoke recently with a former contestant Melina Alves about why the show should be coming back for more.

But in taking this story back to “Motive” for a minute, what do you think about the show coming back for another season on ABC, and do you wish that the show would air its episodes at the same time that they come on in Canada? Be sure to share your thoughts below!
