‘Mistresses’ season 2 official; still no word on ‘Whodunnit?’ renewal

It could happen -For those of you who adored “Mistresses,” you will be pleased to know that there is no more need to sit around and worry over a renewal. Why? ABC has given the show a green light for a second season.

While this one was a little bit touch-and-go at times, the rising ratings for some of the later weeks seemed to make it clear that the Alyssa Milano series was good for another 13 episodes to air in the summer of 2014. The show was not a ratings monster, but it had a loyal fanbase that stuck with it all throughout the year. At a time when many shows premiere only to tank a couple of weeks later, this sort of loyalty is something that should be supported, especially since that is one of the ways now to cultivate long-term hits in this culture of Netflix and binge-watching.

Sadly, there is still no word on another summer series that we found personally to be a favorite: “Whodunnit?”, which had a similar sort of ratings trajectory in that it never had huge ratings, but the numbers increased over the course of the year. It was a big risk for the network, but one that viewers seemed to like. While we think that the viewership would be higher if the show was brought back again now, it’s hard for just one critic to convince a network of that. There is also going to be a new reality boss in town at ABC soon, and it could be a little while before this person settles in and decides what they want to do with some of the shows that were previously on the air. Before this change, show creator Anthony Zuiker was confident that the series would be back for more.
