‘The Mentalist’ season 6 spoilers: Life without Red John for Patrick Jane

When you have spent as much time as Patrick Jane over the years trying to track down a single criminal, there is something that is going to inevitably happen as a result of that: You’re going to start to become a little bit obsessed, as to whether or not fighting crime is going to be the only thing that you know how to do with your life.

This is the sort of conundrum that we are going to find our leading man in at some point on “The Mentalist” season 6. Even when Red John is gone, Jane could have a pretty hard time moving forward. Want some proof of that? Just take a look at the news that a new female character (a series regular, no less) arriving early next year could keep Simon Baker’s character in his profession even after John is gone.

Speaking to TVLine on the subject, series creator Bruno Heller basically had the following to say:

“When you’re as good a detective as Jane is, it’s very hard to walk away even when you want to walk away … Some people wont let Jane walk away from what he’s so good at. And our new female lead has something to do with that.”

Heller also teased a major challenge ahead for Jane and Lisbon following the exit of John, as the two are going to really have to learn how to communicate with each other in a way that does not involve this case.
