Disney Channel ending ‘Shake It Up’; joins ‘Good Luck Charlie’ in saying goodbye

Disney ChannelIs there a mass exodus happening right now within the world of Disney? While it may be a little bit extreme to say that right now, we can at least say that the House of Mouse is really not holding anything back at all when it comes to getting rid of some shows that they feel are past their time. First, they decided to send “Good Luck Charlie” packing despite it being a family favorite; and now, “Shake It Up” is doing the same exact thing.

We remember when this show premiered, and almost everyone was proclaiming that star Bella Thorne was going to end up becoming the next Miley Cyrus. Has that exactly happened? No, but she still has her own fanbase for this show all about the world of dance. It was actually Zendaya as of late that has seen a good bit of time in the spotlight thanks to “Dancing with the Stars,” and she is going to star in a Disney Channel movie in the future.

So why the big shift for the Disney Channel? One big reason is that they may have a certified hit on their hands in “Girl Meets World,” and rather than just rely on the programming that they do have, they may want to push ahead of the curve with some new shows that they can use to launch close to when they bring the “Boy Meets World” universe back on the air. What’s been great for them is that most of their subtle remakes, including following the end of “Hannah Montana,” have turned out okay for them thus far.

What is your reaction to the end of “Shake It Up”? If you want to see some more explanation as to why “Good Luck Charlie” was also sent packing, you can do so here.
