‘Top Chef Masters’ season 5 trailer: Bryan Voltaggio makes history

BravoWhile “MasterChef” may currently be airing new episodes over on Fox, the real masters of the kitchen are going to head back to Bravo on Wednesday, July 24 for an all-new season of “Top Chef Masters.” There are few cooking competitions that are more compelling than this one, at least when it comes to seeing people who are at the top of their game try to give money to charity. These contestants are already hugely successful, and are here for much different reasons beyond just an interest in money and a career they already have.

This season, Curtis Stone will yet again be back to host, and there are a pretty interesting pair of twists to go along with what we have already expected from the show over the past few years:

1. Bryan Voltaggio will become the first former “Top Chef” contestant to take part in this version of the show, being that he was the runner-up the same year that his brother Michael was declared the winner.

2. Each episode will be preceded by a web series episode featuring chefs working alongside their sous chefs, and each competition will have some sort of impact on the upcoming challenge. We still don’t love Bravo’s reliance on web series, mostly since we find it somewhat shortchanges those who don’t get an opportunity to watch many things on the web.

Some of the celebrity guests stopping by this season including Mindy Kaling, Busy Philipps, Ali Larter, and many more. Now, let’s just hope that the contestants are entertaining. (Sometimes, the show’s biggest weakness is that it is almost too polished.)
