‘American Horror Story: Coven’ spoilers: Ryan Murphy on possible vampire show

American Horror StoryIf there has been one thing over the course of “American Horror Story’s” run on television that executive producer Ryan Murphy has been rather averse to, it is the idea of having bloodthirsty vampires running around his shows. What’s the reason for that? It is ultimately rather simple: there are already two popular vampire shows on TV in “True Blood” and “The Vampire Diaries,” an upcoming “Dracula” show on NBC, and possibly a fourth if “The Originals” ends up getting picked up to series. There’s also the “Twilight” phenomenon that has taken over the movie world, and it all begs the question: how many bloodsuckers can we take on TV?

Apparently, Murphy thinks that we may be willing to handle at least one more. Speaking at a panel for the newly-named “American Horror Story: Coven” at PaleyFest on Friday, he confirmed that there were at least discussions with FX head John Landgraf on a possible companion show that could focus on something a little bit different than what he has done already:

“It would be really cool to do a couple of different incarnations of the (American Horror Story) idea, but I can’t talk too much about it.”

Ultimately, the biggest question that we would have is where in the world Murphy would have the time to do something else. He has “Glee” and this series locked in, and the only opening may come via the likelihood that “The New Normal” is canceled based on some of the woeful numbers it has received this spring (which is a shame, since it has moments of being a very charming show).

Do you think a vampire series is something that anyone wants to see at this point? If you want to hear a few more early details on the flagship series (which now has Kathy Bates as a part of the cast), you can do so by heading on over to the link here.
