ABC’s ‘Splash’: Chelsea Handler sidekick out; soccer star Brandi Chastian in

SplashWhile we still do this day must admit that we do not find the cast of ABC’s new diving competition show “Splash” to be particularly engaging, there were at least a couple of intriguing names to get excited about; but sadly, we are now hearing that one of them is officially out before the competition even started to get intense.

Sources are confirming that Chuy Bravo, the diminutive sidekick to Chelsea Handler on her series “Chelsea Lately,” is out of the competition after fracturing a bone in his leg while preparing for a taping of the show. Due to that, producers have made a last-minute substitution of soccer star Brandi Chastain. She is an Olympic gold medalist as well as a Women’s World Cup winner, so you have to believe that there is going to be some sort of competitive edge with her here. Chastain has likely also prepared with the cast, just in case something like this happened.

The real question mark at the end of the day is just whether or not any of this will matter. Fox tried a celebrity diving show earlier this year that flopped miserably, and ABC’s last attempt to put celebrities in another sporting event, “Skating with the Stars,” also was a major letdown after briefly getting off to a good start. This show will air beginning at 8:00 p.m. next week prior to the “Dancing with the Stars” results show, and the good news is that it is not as though this will fare any worse than what the network has been showing, anyway.

Do you think that “Splash” has any real chance at being a hit, or are you feeling more that this is going to be yet another reality competition show doomed to fail at a time when there are too many of them already? If you want to read some more “Dancing with the Stars” news, you can do so here.
