‘Bones’ season 8, episode 15 review: Brennan faces death, regret and faith

Bones

Tonight’s episode of “Bones” season 8 was one of the most highly anticipated episodes of the season and it certainly did not disappoint.

We started tonight’s episode off with Booth pushing Brennan to bring Christine camping and unfortunately it turns into a huge fight about her not being spontaneous enough.  As the fight escalates, Brennan decides to go back to the lab to work on a case, and as it gets later and later, Booth tries to call her to find out why she’s so late.  She ignores his calls and continues working, when an intruder comes into the lab and shoots her.  Booth comes to the lab to make up with Brennan and finds her on the floor in a pool of blood.

While Brennan is unconscious, she has a vision of herself talking to her dead mother in their old house.  Brennan feels that she’s just having a hallucination, but her mother tells her that some people feel that this experience is going towards heaven.  Brennan tries to escape the house and her mother, saying that she doesn’t believe in God, but she’s trapped in the house and is facing death straight in the face.

In the operating room they have trouble finding the bullet and while searching for it they start to lose her – in fact her heart stopped twice, but in the end they were able to stabilize her.  As for the bullet, they never found one and there was no exit wound and while at first they suspect that it was an ice bullet that killed both her and the guard on watch that night it turns out that it was actually a bullet made of blood.

When Brennan wakes up Booth tells her what happened to her, and asks her if she knew who shot her, and she says she couldn’t see because of her magnifier goggles.  He also tells her that she was dead for two minutes before she came back, leaving her to the realization that she might not have been hallucinating when she saw her mother after all.

While resting in recovery, Brennan passes out again and she finds herself back at her parent’s house talking to her mother again.  They reminisce about the last time they saw each other and Brennan is crushed that their last meeting was a fight.  She apologizes to her mother for that fight and as she goes to hug her mother Brennan returns to the real world.

Brennan tells Booth about her experience, that she went to another plain where she saw her mother and while Brennan still tries to pass it off as hallucination, Booth says that he believes that she did see her.  Later Booth finds that the killer actually works at the lab and was working in cahoots with the guard to steal priceless artifacts from the Jeffersonian.  Brennan became a victim, because they feared that she was smart enough to figure out what was going on at some point.

What did you think of tonight’s episode of “Bones” season 8? Do you feel that Brennan’s experience will change her forever or do you think that she will eventually revert to her old ways?  Leave us a comment and tell us what you think.
