‘The Bachelor’ 2013: What we want to see from Sean Lowe’s season

Sean Lowe as "The Bachelor"Now that Christmas season is wrapping up, there’s really nothing keeping us from being excited about what is going to be coming up soon: “The Bachelor” season! Sean Lowe will be returning to television soon to hand out some roses, and with that of course comes plenty of question marks as to who he will send home, what sort of drama there will be, and just if he will actually find a long-term relationship at the end of the day.

With that in mind, we’ve composed a handy list of things in which we would personally love to see as a TV critic (and lover of good reality TV) in the new year. Don’t worry: there are no spoilers in here, just mere speculation and talk about the show’s production behind the scenes.

1. Unique challenges – Do we really need to have the same sort of dates every year? There are really a few archetypes that some of the early dates on the show fall into: adventure (climbing or jumping out of something), a concert from a random musician, treating the lucky lady to brand-new jewelry and a dress, or the date that always manages to contain some sort of personal connection to the leading man’s past. While we know the show loves to make things over the top, aren’t there some additional ways to do this that have not been tried yet?

2. A cast that does not all love each other – We’re not saying that there needs to be over-the-top drama, but it wouldn’t be entertaining if every single person on the cast loved every single other person. There needs to at least be some level of bickering in order for this to work out properly.

3. Surprises – Have walkouts! Have Sean send people home before the rose ceremony! It’s hard and rather sadistic to root for people to be emotionally crushed, but in some ways watching “The Bachelor” encourages you to do this to some of the people vying for the lead’s heart.

4. A likable final two – While a good villain is necessary for entertainment, we don’t want to see Sean pick them in the end! Instead, we’re pulling for two ladies that we would want to root for to get a ring on their finger. Considering that Sean seems to be such a likable guy, we have a feeling he will figure this out.
