NBC to air Jessica Simpson’s ‘Fashion Star’ on Fridays

Fashion StarThere is a surprise now when it comes to “Fashion Star” season 2, and it does not exactly signal that NBC has a whole lot of faith in the latest version of their fashion competition featuring Jessica Simpson in a lead role as a mentor. After all, they have just decided to put the show on Friday nights.

In a press release Thursday, the network confirmed that March 8 will be the official date for the show, and it will be premiering at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. This is a rather bizarre move for a number of reasons, beginning with the fact that Simpson and Nicole Richie are very much people of this generation; therefore, why are you putting their show on a night when nobody will be watching? In addition to that, you are not really doing much at all here when it comes to brand continuity. “Grimm” has been in desperate need of a lead-in for some time on Friday nights, but is a show about fashion really the best thing to go along with something that is already best described as a slice of science fiction and fantasy.

If there is a silver lining to throw in here when it comes to “Fashion Star,” it is that the show has something pretty major going for it in that there is no other competition in this timeslot when it comes to reality competition. “Undercover Boss” is a very different sort of show, and “Shark Tank” has been moved to 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. Therefore, it is possible that this could become some sort of go-to destination for young women, at least so long as The does not air “America’s Next Top Model” at the same time.
