NBC’s ‘The Voice’ rankings: Is it really between Trevin Hunte, Amanda Brown?

Finally, we are at a point in the competition on “The Voice” where we can include all of the contestants into one article. Not only that, but this is also the first time ever (excluding the finales) where we have been able to rank all of the contenders against each other. While in some ways the twist where anyone could go home any week is bad in that it takes some of the distinct flavor out of this show, it does prevent us from having to see a Jamar Rogers leave the competition before they deserve to in the finale.

Now, let’s turn to the rankings, which we are going to base off of everything from performance quality to air time, star power, and even the coach that they have.

12. Adriana Louise (Christina Aguilera) – Adriana is not a bad singer, but it’s stunning that she is here over De’borah, who could have brought in more votes as a unique artist who stands out from the pack. We fear that Adriana will be lost in the shuffle almost immediately, especially since there is someone similar on Christina’s own team.

11. Melanie Martinez (Adam Levine) – Being the judges’ choices is a disadvantage here in that there was no “sing for their lives,” so these people really did not get much of an edge when it comes to screentime. The good news for Melanie is that she is unique; however, the bad news is that being unique to her means making every song sound the same.

10. Michaela Paige (Blake Shelton) – Unlike Melanie, she is quirky but also changes it up just about every week. Honestly we were surprised to see her not get sent straight through thanks to Cassadee Pope, and our worry now is that she and Melanie could cancel each other out in the voting.

9. Cody Belew (Cee Lo Green) – Of the judges’ picks, Cody is the most likely sleeper of the bunch. His George Michael performance was really rather wonderful, and his only real disadvantage came here in being on the same team as Nicholas David and Trevin Hunte.

8. Dez Duron (Christina) – Dez is a good-looking guy, and this plus him being on two seasons of the show was probably enough to get him sent through to the next round of the show. However, there’s not really anything there musically that pops off the screen, and this could be trouble unless his coach can Tony Lucca him up and give him some crazy, innovative song choices.

7. Cassadee Pope (Blake) – Cassadee probably does have a following thanks to her past work, but in order to obtain a new following here, she will probably need to actually back away from her coach’s advice here and try to shake things up a little. She needs a new style, or at least something to surprise us.

6. Terry McDermott (Blake) – Love Terry’s rock voice and love him as a person … but is he really a star for the modern-day music scene? This is what confuses us at the moment, since he seems stuck in decades past musically.

5. Bryan Keith (Adam) – Bryan’s a great singer, but like Dez, he comes across as a little vanilla. The biggest challenge for Adam (which he knows how to fix) is to give this guy something that actually stretches himself as a singer and veers into surprising territory. This means no more Goo Goo Dolls. Ever.

4. Sylvia Yacoub (Christina) – She had the best performance overall of the first live round, but this was really the first time America has come to know how good she is. Can she make up for a lack of airtime? She is going to need more performances like “The One That Got Away” if she wants a shot.

3. Nicholas David (Cee Lo) – The beard is still something to be feared, even though if we were Nicholas, we would venture away from Barry White in the future since that can put you closer into “cheesy” territory. He needs something that is almost a combination of soul and folk music, and while he may be the biggest challenge of the competition when it comes to song choice, he’s so unique that he is hard to ignore.

2. Amanda Brown (Adam) – Who knew Amanda was this good? Next to Sylvia, her “Dream On” was the standout moment of this past week, and she would be our #1 were it not for all of the hype surrounding the singer at the top of the list.

1. Trevin Hunte (Cee Lo) – For the older and the younger voting blocks, Trevin is currently king in that he is not only a great singer, but he performs the sort of big ballads that helped out both Jermaine Paul and Javier Colon before him. We’re not sure that he is the sort of winner that “The Voice” needs to establish itself as a force in producing radio-friendly artists, but this is what sells well on this show.

Who do you think is the current favorite to win “The Voice” season 3?
