‘Ink Master’ season 2, episode 5 review: Horrors and Halloween

Apparently, the production team of “Ink Master” has this planned out a long time in advance, since they managed to prepare this episode so that it was going to be all about Halloween; and in the process, we definitely saw some scary situations.

First and foremost, the remaining contestants all managed to tackle something that was rather painful: lip tattoos. Who wants to get a tattoo where nobody can see them? There were some people who took some risks here when it came to colors or complex designs, but they forgot two things: the judges wants these tattoos to still be practical, and they also want them to last for a while. Clint, the arrogant mastermind who is pretty much our guilty pleasure on the show at this point, ended up winning, and came up with this brilliant “strategy” to run the chances of all of the people that have gone against him at some point during the elimination challenge, which was all about designing horror tattoos.

Did this really work? Not entirely, since some of the people who did struggle with this task were completely out of left field. For one, Clint struggled mightily himself when it comes to the texture (or including any of it at all), and Kay Kutta really did the same thing. Sarah, who he tried to sandbag, actually did a really good job save for one or two bumps in the road. Mark was not necessarily his biggest rival here, but his tattoo was quite possible the biggest disaster out of anyone. The only thing that could have saved anyone was that Big Daddy Trey went to the hospital after having a serious problem with his eye. Kay and Jesse were ultimately the weak links on the night … and Trey joined them in spirit, and was sent home without even really getting a chance to plead for his life. At least he can say that he left for performance reasons and not injury, right?
