‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 spoilers: Good news for Jamie Lannister fans

You can often tell a good bit about a character’s storyline on a show just from some general comments from one of the writers, and this time around, “Game of Thrones” fans, in particular those of Jamie Lannister, have quite a bit to celebrate. (Then again, isn’t their always something to celebrate when it comes to fantasy’s first family of crazy?)

As a part of a new interview with the Mary Sue, Bryan Cogman (who has been making the rounds over the past month to promote his “Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones” book) explained who his favorite character was during season 2, in addition to how well that probably bodes for a certain Kingslayer this time around:

“I have great affection for all of them (and the actors who portray them). I had a great time writing Theon in Season 2 and I’ve really enjoyed writing Jaime in Season 3. And I always like writing for the kids. There’s a character I love from the books — Aeron Damphair, who we haven’t seen on the show yet, but it’d be fun to get a crack at him. We’ll see.”

While Theon was more of a supplemental character during the first season, there is no question that his arc during season 2 was thrilling to watch thanks in part to his ego running out of control in his quest to find power by taking of Winterfell. We’re not sure how big of a role he will have in season 3 given his changed role in the George R.R. Martin books, but we’re sure that the writers will still find a way to include him on screen as they did with Robb Stark (whose character was referenced more indirectly in the second book than he was on the show itself).

Are you looking forward to some more Jamie this season?
