‘American Idol’ notes: Lee DeWyze and Kris Allen music; season 12 promo

For this Sunday edition of “American Idol” notes, we have plenty of great stuff coming your way, whether it be a new song from Lee DeWyze or a great performance of an old song courtesy of Kris Allen.

We’ll begin with Lee, mostly because we have spent some time as of late talking about the season 9 champ’s current tour that you can find more information about here. This new song from his debut show in New Jersey this weekend is called “Like I Do,” and it’s simply pretty beautiful. It keeps together the folk sensibility that we have heard in much of his new material as of late, and we also really like the classic theme of “I can love you better than anyone else.”

Let’s hope that at some point following this tour, Lee will get a chance to finally put out that much-anticipated new album with all of the material we’ve heard as of late.

Kris Allen goes back in time – Speaking of concerts, the season 8 champ decided to perform one of the songs from his first album (which he made while in college) at a recent gig in New York City. The song is called “Wipe It Away,” and it is the first time that he has decided to perform the song in concert really since being on the show. As for the reason behind doing it now, it’s really just the result of some fans repeatedly requesting it.

The new promo – Finally, we’ll close things off with the latest promo for season 12 featuring the likes of Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, and of course Ryan Seacrest. It’s really nothing special when it comes to reinventing the wheel, but isn’t it always nice to hear “this … is ‘American Idol!'” again? Next to “the tribe has spoken,” this has to be the most iconic phrase in reality TV.
