‘Jersey Shore’ season 6: Deena Cortese’s arrest leads to ratings … fall?

At this point, it seems as though nothing is going to make “Jersey Shore” the phenomenon that it once was during its final season … not even one of its main characters doing something that would have previously brought in some huge ratings for the show.

The latest ratings for the hit MTV program have come in, and they show one thing above all else: there’s still no end in sight to this decline. This episode scored just a 1.6 in the 18-49 demographic and less than three million viewers, which is the lowest-rated broadcast for a 10:00 p.m. show since the very first season (back before people knew what this show really existed). Even though these ratings really do signal that viewers have grown tired of watching the same thing (and that MTV potentially killed their own product with all of the spin-offs), we have a feeling that the network is really not going to be upset about the fall of a franchise that has been the best thing to happen to them since “The Osbournes” became a phenomenon a decade ago.

Will the show ever turn these ratings around during the season? We think so, but it probably will not happen until we inch closer to the much-anticipated series finale a little bit later in the year, as old viewers will probably watch one more time to get their last dose of GTL in. Even with that, though, the fact that there is a second season of “Snooki & JWoww” coming up really does diminish the impact of this episode, since we know we will probably see most of these people on the network again via some cameo appearance at some point.

Are you shocked that the arrest of Deena Cortese, which produced some pretty good unintentional comedy for the show, did not produce a ratings jump this week? Be sure to share below.
