‘The Office’ star Craig Robinson sticking with NBC for new pilot

Craig Robinson has certainly found plenty of success as an actor courtesy of “The Office,” and it appears that now he is looking to transition that into the next phase of his career: a leading role on another show.

According to a brand-new report from Deadline, Robinson, who you likely otherwise know as former warehouse employee Darryl, is going to be teaming up with current showrunner Greg Daniels as well as fellow executive producer Owen Ellickson for an NBC pilot that actually seems to be bearing some similarities to “The School of Rock.” Robinson will star as a musician who becomes a teacher at a middle school, but he quickly finds out that teaching music in this world is far and away different to the sort of rocking out that he is accustomed to doing on a pretty regular basis.

Some of the problems for Robinson’s character here are going to be fairly obvious: not only is he going to have to deal with the complicated curriculum and politics that go with being a teacher, but there are often some elements that are hard to deal with when it comes to students and their parents, which will be his biggest temptation thanks to the fact that he is single.

It’s becoming commonplace these days for stars of “The Office” to branch off with their own shows. Mindy Kaling of course already has “The Mindy Project” on Fox, and Angela Kinsey is also working on a new pilot that focuses on a very different character than she has played here over the years.

What do you think about the idea behind this show, and do you see Robinson as a capable leading man?
