‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: Kevin McKidd on ‘child’ drama

At the moment on “Grey’s Anatomy,” it may look as though Cristina and Owen could not be more apart, whether you look at this either figuratively or literally. The two doctors (and former lovers) are in different cities, and are each going through some pretty difficult stuff in their lives stemming from the plane crash. However, a temporary separation does not mean that things will become permanent, and we already know that there are some moments coming up for this part that will bring them another step closer to being in each other’s arms again.

Unfortunately, there are still some problems here beyond just cheating that could hold the two of them back, including a topic that led to Cristina even getting an abortion: having kids. Speaking to TVLine, Kevin McKidd says that this is an issue that is still not going to end up going away for the two parties moving forward this season:

“That’s a fundamental thing … It’s in his DNA. He wants to be a dad. I don’t know how [they overcome that]… It’s going to be a tough road. I enjoyed last season watching their decline. But my hope as a fan is that they make it back to each other.”

When could we see the beginning of movement in this direction? In some ways, we think it will happen with the fifth episode of the season airing in the November sweeps, which is going to focus largely on Meredith and Cristina focusing not only on their friendship, but also on their future. By the time the first half of the season is done, we expect some significant movement; after all, executive producer Shonda Rhimes has already said that this story is far from over.
