‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 3 spoilers: Olympian Missy Franklin checks in

As it turns out, Adam Lambert is not going to be the only big name checking into “Pretty Little Liars” this season; we’re also going to bearing from one of the most-popular young athletes in America.

ABC Family announced on Tuesday that swimmer Missy Franklin, who took the world by storm en route to earning several gold medals at the London Games, is going to be guest-starring on an upcoming episode of the teen drama series as herself. So what will be the reason for her turning up in Rosewood? While we don’t know for sure why she will be in the town, she is going to be stop by to exchange some words with Shay Mitchell’s Emily at the local coffee shop The Brew. Like Franklin, Emily is a competitive swimmer who also happens to be a high school student.

Franklin is really just the latest Olympian getting an opportunity to extend their time in the spotlight on TV. Gymnast Gabby Douglas is going to be on her favorite show in “The Vampire Diaries” later this year, and we are also going to see another swimmer in Ryan Lochte stop by “30 Rock” for an appearance of his own Thursday night. (Douglas’ teammate McKayla Mulroney will appearing on “Hart of Dixie.”) This is great PR for ABC Family to bring on someone of Franklin’s caliber, and it’s possible that it will bring their show a few extra viewers in the process. Let’s also hope that it even adds something to Emily’s story?
