‘Private Practice’ review: Addison learns [spoiler] in the worst way ever

When you remember that the worlds of “Private Practice” and “Grey’s Anatomy” are very much linked, then you surely knew that it was only a matter of time before Addison found out the stunning news: Mark Sloan was in a plane crash, and he is no longer among the living.

Before we get to the question that everyone wants to find out about, let’s start by focusing inside on some of the other stories that unfolded during the episode. For one thing, Kate Walsh’s character had to deal with the aftermath that she chose Jake over Sam, namely in that she hadn’t broken the news that she and Jake were living together to him before Sam found out about it in the worst way imaginable. In other news related to news coming out at the wrong times, Cooper ended up spilling the beans on his upcoming triplets with Charlotte while having a conversation with a very high Violent sitting in an empty bathtub. This really provided one of the funnier moments of the episode, even if Sam decided to come in and be the Debbie Downer of this whole ordeal.

Then again, based on what happened next, we almost wish that someone had taken the pot away from Violet a little bit sooner. While everyone was trying to mourn Pete with a party that he apparently wanted, Addison found out the news that Mark was being taken off live support; and moments later, we had the world’s worst karaoke session from one very stoned person trying to make everyone feel better.

While Addison has this new gut-wrenching pain to deal with, there was one final moment of this episode worth mentioning: she and Sam are going to try and be friends at some point down the road. It may just take some time. Just like it is going to take time for Violet to get over what happened to Pete, and for the ashes she dumped into the ocean to reach another part of the world. All things, in the end, do take time.
