‘Downton Abbey’ season 3 spoilers: First scoop from episode 5

We’re guessing that you already getting set to watch Sunday night’s new episode of “Downton Abbey” over on ITV; but before we even get there, would you like some more details on episode 5? The network has just released their official synopsis for the episode, and it looks like there may be some pretty significant movement for some stories pertaining to Edith, Matthew, and even Bates locked in prison.

Check out the clues for the episode below:

“An exciting offer for Edith divides opinion … Isobel throws Ethel a lifeline … New maid Ivy is attracting attention below stairs, and Alfred’s interest in particular is resented by Daisy … Anna’s perseverance finally pays off. Matthew’s concerns about the estate grow but are his protests falling on deaf ears?”

Whatever happens to Edith, we really just hope that it will be something that allows her to find a little bit more happiness in her life considering that she is still wiping away the scars caused by being left at the altar at the end of last week’s episode by Sir Anthony. Then again, anything that gets her out of that bedroom may be good for at this point.

As for what sort of concerns Matthew could have, we are unsure … but we do know that he has much more of a stake in the game now than he ever did before thanks to the partnership he created with Grantham at the end of Sunday night’s episode in order to ensure that the Abbey stays in the family’s possession. Of course, the question we now have to ask is just whether or not Matthew is finally going to grow comfortable with this new role by the time this episode airs.

Is there is anything within this synopsis that excites you?
