When you look at “The Big Bang Theory,” there have been a few alterations to the cast over the years. The first season, the show was really all about just five people — Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar, and Simon Helberg. Then, Sara Gilbert was briefly promoted to a series regular during season 2, only to later disappear off the face of the earth and join “The Talk.” Things stayed constant then until Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik were eventually promoted over the course of the past two seasons.
So do we have a new face now listed at the top of the show? According to the site Big Bang Buzz (who was present at a taping this week), Kevin Sussman was listed under the “starring” category for his character of Stuart the comic shop owner rather than in the guest star category. This does suggest as though the actor may have received a promotion to series regular, and is going to be featured a little bit more in the coming season than he has been in the past (which mostly included some sporadic appearances a few times a season). If this turns out to be true, we certainly wouldn’t mind — Sussman’s character has been fun to watch, as he’s a different sort of geek than the others — a hapless guy with a store that is always a few seconds away from going under. He doesn’t have any luck with the ladies, and it would keep that element of the show intact now that so many of the other guys have romantic interests in their lives.
Granted, this news is not confirmed, and there may be some sort of alternate explanation for it. Regardless, this change-up in the programs does at least mean to us that we are going to be seeing more of Sussman in the coming season, and some comments from executive producer Bill Prady recently have made it clear that they are going to be using the comic book store set during at least one of the early episodes.
For those curious, Sussman has also made a recent appearance on “Weeds” as Nancy’s new boos within the pharmaceutical industry.
Do you think a little more Stuart on the show would be a good thing? Be sure and share some of your thoughts below! To check out some more news about Mayim Bialik’s recovery from her thumb injury, be sure and visit the story here.
