‘The Vampire Diaries': Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev support Olympian in videoby August 7, 2012
The CW has come up with yet another creative way to promote their upcoming season of “The Vampire Diaries” — by having some of their biggest stars appear in a new video celebrating one of their biggest fans who just happens to now be the most-decorated Olympian in he world from the London 2012 Games.
If you look below, you can check out a number of the show’s stars — including Nina Dobrev (Elena), Paul Wesley (Stefan), Ian Somerhalder (Damon), and Michael Trevino (Tyler) all send Gabby Douglas some congratulations as they continue to film the fourth season of the show in Atlanta. Really, it’s a smart move for a number of reasons — not only does it show that the cast is in tune with what is going on around the world and wants to support one of their biggest fans, but it’s also a brilliant promotional tool. Why wouldn’t you want to pitch your wagon alongside one of the most-watched television events of the year? Like many other serialized programming that has already been on the air for a while, “The Vampire Diaries” is looking for a way to either keep or grow their viewership for their upcoming fourth season, and The CW as a whole is undergoing a new branding with their “TV Now” slogan. This is already their highest-rated show, so it certainly doesn’t hurt that this is the one that Douglas apparently likes to watch on a regular basis.
How nice — and also how smart — do you think it was for “The Vampire Diaries” to create this video in Gabby’s honor? Season 4 officially premiere on Thursday, October 11 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
