The Outlander season 3 finale is coming your way on Sunday, and at the center of it is going to be one thing: Geillis Duncan’s master plan.
What we’ve come to know about her is this: She wants to fulfill what she believes to be a prophecy, one involving a 200-year old baby that is almost certainly Brianna. Given all of the clues that are sprinkled into the story, (including a promo that features a place similar to the stones in Scotland) signs point towards Geillis trying to go forward to the 20th century in order to find Jamie and Claire’s daughter. As a means of doing that, she could be using a captured Young Ian as some sort of sacrifice. Given that she loves to dabble in witchcraft, we wouldn’t be surprised if his life is on the line from the moment that this episode first begins.
In the photos for this episode (which you can check out below) you get a sense that there is a ceremony underway for Geillis to execute her plan — apparently, Claire and Jamie are going to be forced into attending. If there’s any good news here, it’s the fact that Jamie doesn’t seem to be under the custody of Captain Leonard and the crew of the Porpoise anymore.
The odds are clearly stacked against the Frasers and Young Ian, but they’ve found their way to get out of a number of terrible binds before. When you consider that, they should be able to work their way through this — and we certainly feel like Geillis is going to be subject to some retribution on the other side of whatever she’s planning. After all, Jamie and Claire obviously make it to season 4, which is filming at the moment and is set in North Carolina.
While we don’t think there are any enormous spoilers in these finale photos beyond what we’ve mentioned so far, we would say that these do a wonderful job at showing range. Just think back to where Outlander season 3 was at the start of the season in contrast to where we are now. We’re back in the past, in a completely new world, and dealing with all sorts of new supernatural conflicts. All of a sudden, the crew of the Porpoise is no longer anywhere near the chief concern for Jamie and Claire.
Just one reminder…
