NCIS season 15 episode 10 is airing on CBS on December 12, and it’s going to be a potentially-bittersweet holiday hour. At the crux of “Double Down” is an overseas mission for Jack Sloane and Nick Torres, and the more the story progresses in Afghanistan the more unlikely it appears that the two of them are going to be emerging in one piece.
Back at home, Gibbs and the rest of the team is going to have to prepare for the worst — while also ensuring that he will do anything in his power in order to help. You get a reasonably good sense of that in the new promo that CarterMatt has for you below, including how the agents in danger find themselves in danger in the first place — a transport trip gone terribly awry. The fact that all of this plays over “Silent Night” makes it all the more chilling.
Obviously, we want to hope that NCIS is actually not going to kill off a character over the course of the holidays given that no one wants to end up crying in their eggnog until the show comes back. Anything’s technically possible, but we want to hope for the best. What any fan should be more fearful of is a dramatic cliffhanger that could last over Christmas and New Year’s Eve before picking up in 2018. The show’s got some good momentum with a major villain (Hicks) at the moment and they may want to continue that. The same goes for some of their individual story arcs. We’ve gotten to know a little bit about Sloane since Maria Bello entered the series, including that she likes to be aggressive and doesn’t want anyone to treat her with kid gloves. Her being thrown out into Afghanistan is further proof that nobody on the team has any intention of doing just that.
There’s a reason why we’ve nominated NCIS for Underrated Show at the CarterMatt Awards this year — we really think that they’re onto something and that the new showrunners are getting a chance to take some interesting risks in their first full season on the job.
