Arrow season 6 spoilers: Willa Holland will return as Thea

Thea

Is Willa Holland done with Arrow after that big Thea twist? If you like the character there is some good news we can present you with today. (There are some clear spoilers below if you are behind in watching the premiere episode.)

Near the end of the “Liam Yu” episode it was revealed that while Thea technically survived the bombing of the island, she is now in a coma. It’s not entirely clear as to when she will wake up and try to resume a normal life, but rest assured that it is going to be happening at some point. We speculated at the time of the episode airing on Thursday that Holland (who has been with the show since the beginning is on a contract that is fairly similar to the one that she had last year, one that allowed her to be in the bulk of the season while still missing several along the way. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently confirmed as much to TVLine in terms of Willa’s status for the new season.

Does this mean that Holland will be absent for the next several weeks only to return at midseason and be active for the rest of the year? This is what we hope to see happen given that this is the twist that would make the most sense for the character. We don’t want to see the writers have to continually come up with some nonsensical explanations as to what’s happened with Thea, such as her being off at a convention or some other odd job that is her responsibility at the Mayor’s office. It just makes a little bit more sense to know that she is around for a big arc so that the character can actually be used as opposed to just popping in here and there. There wasn’t much of a way for the writers to consistently use Holland given that there were such long stretches Thea was absent. It’s hard to start and stop a story arc.

The Thea situation is certainly one to watch in the coming weeks — given that she is Oliver Queen’s sister we have to imagine that this is something that the Arrow producers will be touching on even when the character is not around. We do know that he has some other responsibilities now, including caring for his son William, but this isn’t the first that Oliver has been in a position where he has to juggle things. He’s done so much juggling the past few years that he may as well be a court jester at this point.

When do you want to see Thea Queen return?
