Jenna Fischer of The Office denies Celebrity Big Brother USA rumors

While it may be fun to write about Celebrity Big Brother USA rumors, whether it be Jenna Fischer or anyone else, can we put the brakes on it for a little while? There are probably going to be a lot of stupid rumors out there over the next two months, but it makes positively zero sense for CBS to cast this show completely now when it’s now premiering until next year. Many of the people they are probably reaching out to are actors, comedians, and reality stars who could easily get a better deal to do something else down the road.

Ultimately, remember this — even if CBS, casting, and the producers reach out to celebrities now, we have a difficult time imagining that they will cement a cast at any point before January. It’s much too early, especially if there are overnight celebrities that come out of the woodwork between now and then if the network wants to strike when the iron’s hot. Think in terms of Dancing with the Stars casting Alek Skarlatos last-minute.

So where did the Jenna Fischer casting rumor come from? It’s tied to a bogus BB rumor account on social media and it took a life of its own on Twitter, much in the way that many things do on the social-media site. We do understand the logic, given that the former The Office star is a big fan of much of CBS’ reality competition programming and it’d be really fun seeing someone like her in the Diary Room given how much time Pam was in a similar environment on the NBC show.

Alas, Fischer confirmed on Twitter that the rumor isn’t true … not that this is a surprise or anything.

One of the biggest issues that we foresee CBS having in general with casting this show is not only getting a group of people to agree to going on the show, but then also getting them to be okay with being on the live feeds all of the time. This is something that even the UK celebrity show does not do. We want there to be new and fresh faces; what we don’t want is to see Stephen Baldwin, Janice Dickinson, and Lisa Rinna — basically, people who have already been on a billion reality shows and don’t bring anything new to the table other than a rampant desire for fame.

For the record, we’ve made already a BB Celebrity casting wishlist that includes a great combination of celebrity Big Brother superfans, familiar faces, and CBS personalities for network synergy. It’s a good jumping-off point for the sort of people that should be considered.

No matter what happens with the cast, Jenna Fischer or otherwise, know that we’re going to be covering this throughout the new year as we await the new Big Brother Canada season coming on the air.
