The X-Files season 11 spoilers: Karin Konoval bringing more fear

For those of you who remember Karin Konoval on The X-Files, you probably remember her episode that caused you to freak the bleep out. Her freaky role under the bed in the episode “Home” (which first aired two decades ago) became famous among the fandom … but also infamous for Fox, who declined against re-airing it for many years due to the fear factor of it all. You know that you’re pushing the envelope when your own network tries to pretend that you don’t exist for a while!

Anyhow, we assumed that show creator Chris Carter and the writers would find a way to use Konoval again, and suffice it to say we are far from disappointed. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Konoval is going to return for the upcoming 11th season; even though she may only be appearing in one episode as of this writing, Carter teases in a statement that she may be very well taking on multiple different roles:

“While Karen Konoval won’t be reprising her role as the mother-under-the-bed in the fan-favorite episode ‘Home,’ she will be returning in a tour-de-force performance in an early episode. Or, more accurately — performances.”

This is a show that is almost impossible to get into speculation about, so with that the only thing that we can say with the utmost confidence right now is that we’re happy to be getting more of Karin on the show. She’s an actress who is more than capable of doing a wide array of different things, and with this show, that’s absolutely a great thing given how much it benefits you to leave so many different things open to the imagination. You want to surprise people, just as much as it also benefits you to try and be terrifying in as many different ways as you possibly can in an episode like this.

There is, alas, still no confirmed premiere date for The X-Files season 11, though our current assumption is that we could see the show return in either January or February of the new year. That is is enough time for Fox to get its ten-episode season on the air, and for them to then still move forward and have another program on the air for the spring. (Our hope, of course, is that the network will do the right thing and give us a chance to see the premiere after the NFC Championship Game.
