America’s Got Talent finalist spotlight: How Diavolo can win
Today, we at CarterMatt are going to look more extensively at the acrobatics / dance group, who have done a lot of stuff on this show that we haven’t quite seen before. Every single performance feels like a Cirque du Soleil production with the choreography and the athleticism and all of the creativity that goes into them. It’s dangerous, it’s intense, and there is some sort of larger story behind it.
As for whether or not they can actually win, that’s a different subject for discussion.
Their strengths – There isn’t anyone else on the show like them. For people who do genuinely watch America’s Got Talent for the sake of checking out great variety acts, there is so much to love about this group! They put themselves in harm’s way, but more than that they have such a sense of artistry and passion behind what they do. They’re rather soft-spoken and we don’t really know about anyone other than the visionary behind the group, but that often does not matter with such performers.
What do they need to watch out for? – Trying to do too much. While astounding, this past performance occasionally teetered on having too much going on for viewers to follow at home? This act doesn’t always translate the best because the camera has to jerk around a lot. We’d find a way, if possible, to focus in on a group who are doing incredible things amidst some sort of crazy, ever-changing backdrop.
How they win – They have an uphill battle, mostly because the judges are responsible for them being in the finale in the first place. With the right choreography, we do think that they are going to be able to take their performance up yet another level. Beyond that, though, this group probably needs a few other things to go in its favor for it to have a chance at winning, including good placement and praise from the judges that is on another level to almost everyone else.
For the record, though, we don’t think winning changes their narrative all that much provided that they can find a venue in Vegas or Los Angeles willing to support their vision. This could easily work as an extended stage show with more acrobatics and storytelling.
