The Walking Dead season 8: Andrew Lincoln on Old Man Rick reveal
The one thing that we do know is that we’re going to penning many theories about this subject here on CarterMatt coming up so be on the look out! Andrew Lincoln himself isn’t providing a whole lot of fuel for that fire, but he did make some of his thoughts on the mere presence of the twist itself clear in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“I mean, it’s a gray Rick … It’s an older Rick. So by virtue of the fact that you see, that means that it’s in the future.”
Lincoln also shared some of his initial thoughts on it — without confirming if this happens in reality or when you’ll find out all of the specifics:
“I was shocked and kind of excited by it … My instinct was, what a great storytelling device. That was my instinct. I thought it was very interesting, and also gives us an opportunity to do something else a little ahead of the game, which I think is very, very neat.”
What do we know about the Old Man Rick reveal to date?
One of the biggest things is that you’ll have a chance to see a clue as to what’s going on at the start of the season, but it may take a while longer to get to the bottom of what’s really going on here. The biggest thing that we do like about the twist is that it’s different from some of what the AMC series has done in the past. This isn’t about whether or not someone is going to die or trying to figure out if there’s going to be a huge cliffhanger at the end of the season. This isn’t even about a mystery character. It’s just about what happens to someone we already know and love, and trying to figure out what some of the motivating factors for that could be.
We should have answers, (one way or another) when it comes to this Old Man Rick reveal during the season. We just hope that there’s something more beyond it, whether it be a time jump the show is playing with for some time or something that is a little more of a literal interpretation of what’s happening in the comics. It feels like a mistake to directly link the twist to that since the show has “remixed” things in the past.
