Dancing with the Stars 25: Cheryl Burke returning as pro

Cheryl Burke returning

There’s no more reason to wonder about Cheryl Burke returning to Dancing with the Stars — it’s now official.

In a new post on Twitter, Burke confirmed that she is heading back into the show’s famous ballroom for the upcoming 25th season of the ABC show. This is her first since last fall, when she came back after a lengthy absence and performed alongside the ever-controversial Ryan Lochte. That season was a challenging one for her almost from the jump — Lochte struggled at times with opening up in the ballroom, and he also was the subject of open protest during his very first performance on the show from people who didn’t want him there. The pair tried to move forward from it, and they did last several weeks into the season.

Burke is the first pro to win two different seasons of the show, having done so in the second season with Drew Lachey and then again in season 3 with Emmitt Smith. While her partner for the new season is not official yet, there’s obviously going to be a lot of hype out there for it to be Drew’s brother Nick Lachey, who is reportedly competing on the show this season alongside his wife Vanessa. These two have a chance to have a good rivalry, and the pros could get involved in on some of the fun. Also, you do have to figure that Nick Lachey and Cheryl have some sort of relationship, even if they’ve only talked on a few occasions over the years.

The new season of Dancing with the Stars is only two weeks away from premiering, but for whatever reason the producers have chosen to keep a whole lot of things hush-hush in regards to the cast. As of right now Drew Scott remains the only person officially a part of the new season, though we know that there are some other rumored names out there including Nikki Bella, Derek Fisher, the two Lacheys, and actor/singer Jordan Fisher. One of the more intriguing names to us out there is former Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz, just because there is such a spirit of nostalgia these days and we wonder how he would do in this environment taking on something so different than what he was known for so many years ago. Also, there are some serious Bryan Cranston/Breaking Bad fans out there that would surely throw their votes to Frankie, and that support could launch him pretty far in the competition.

Burke also spoke about joining the season this morning on GMA, and said that she’s looking forward to hopefully incorporating a wider array of different dance styles into the proceedings this time around. This is one of the things that has changed over the years when it comes to the show, as it used to be more about strictly ballroom styles.
