Grey’s Anatomy season 14 spoilers: Expect a brighter, sunnier season

Grey's Anatomy season 14

Is the sky coming out moving into Grey’s Anatomy season 14? Well, after some pretty-depressing seasons of the show the past few years, we could be moving into something a little sunnier.

Speaking per TVLine recently, Giacomo Gianniotti (who plays Andrew DeLuca) made it clear that the upcoming batch of episodes is “funnier, it’s sexier, it’s lighter … We’re going to have fun this season.” Gianniotti also made it clear that certain changes in the doctors’ personal lives is one of the biggest reasons for the change versus what we’ve seen in the past:

“There’s just been a lot of separation and loss, so we want to show the characters having some fun. Also, a lot of the men are single now, so we’re going to explore what that dynamic is like.”

Are there still medical emergencies? Absolutely so, given the fact that this is a show where there are some crazy things that go down. This is a dark, dramatic, and emotional show in so many ways, and we do think that even with a lighter tone there are still going to be problems and medical emergencies. It’s just something that you really need to prepare for at this point in the series’ run.

What we know for sure

In terms of serious storylines, the biggest one is obviously going to be Abigail Spencer coming on board in the role of Megan Hunt. We’re finally going to get a chance to see Owen’s sister on the show! That’s obviously going to have a huge impact on Owen, but you also have to think about Nathan Riggs and what’s going to be happening with him at the same time.

Meanwhile, you’re also going to get a chance to see the arrival of DeLuca’s sister on the show. She’s bringing her own brand of medicine to Seattle, and that is notable given that we’re talking about someone who’s spent most of her time overseas.

In terms of other character storylines, the darkest story that we see coming up is the potential return of Matthew Morrison as Jo’s husband. When you think about Paul and his history of abuse, this is probably the biggest story coming up that contradicts the claim of the show having a “lighter tone” at all moving forward.

What do you think — is now the time for Grey’s Anatomy season 14 to adopt a lighter tone? Share in the comments below!
