Prepare for Outlander season 3 with a fantastic look back (video)
This morning, the network shared what we think is one of the most perfect retrospectives that you’re ever going to find for the first two seasons. It takes you briefly through Claire Randall’s arrival in the past, her meeting Black Jack and Jamie, her eventually becoming Claire Fraser, and the love that forms between her and her new husband. You take off to France and see some of the politics and pandemonium that ensue there — there are tragedies, victories, heartbreak, and new faces. In the end, Jamie and Claire make their way back to Scotland and she eventually departs back through the stones (while carrying his child) prior to the Battle of Culloden.
At around the 2:32 mark of the video, that is where things make a dramatic pivot and we start to look towards the future of season 3. We’re not going to say that there is much in the way of new footage highlighted, but you do get further reminders of Jamie’s struggle at Culloden, Claire’s time raising Brianna in America, and her decision to go back and find him. Also, you have Jamie’s heartbreaking exclamation of “Claire!” — something that you likely first saw in the teaser released by Starz earlier this spring. It still gets us every time…
In the end, this is another effective push by Starz to remind viewers of everything that this show does right — while also teeing up new fans as to why they should watch or go back and watch prior seasons of the show again. Sometimes, seeing these familiar scenes and clips can conjure up old, happy memories of what it was like experiencing some of the scenes for the first time. To us, the events of the pilot feel almost like a world away when you consider just how much Claire has gone through. The same even goes for when she first arrived in Scotland before she knew who Jamie Fraser was. If you have Starz, there are plenty of opportunities to watch some old episodes back via their app or On-Demand — just in case you want to relive much of this for yourself.
Season 3 will continue the journey to bring Jamie and Claire back together, though all signs point towards it being several episodes down the road until the famous Print Shop reunion that so many are looking forward to seeing.
It’s not entirely clear that there will be another trailer released before the season 3 premiere — we actually doubt it — so this may be one of the last bits of promotional footage. The one thing that we still do think you’ll get a chance to see is some sort of video sneak peek, even if it’s just a minute or two from the premiere episode.
