Gotham season 4 spoilers: Marina Benedict to play potential new villain

Benedict

If you wanted another good reason to watch Gotham season 4, you are getting it via Marina Benedict and a potentially villainous role.

According to a new report coming in right now via TVLine, you are going to see Benedict in a recurring role on the upcoming season as a woman by the name of Cherry, someone who could be both friend and foe. She almost sounds like a combination of Barbara Kean with Roulette from Supergirl. She owns and operates a fight club located in the super-dangerous city neighborhood of the Narrows, and she is someone who packs a punch and is not afraid to get her hands dirty. When you first see her, she is going to have a major foothold on her part of the season, and you could see her interact with several different characters. Ed Nygma could be one of them; another could be the newly-minted Solomon Grundy, who is clearly going to have a big part in the show now that it’s been revealed that Butch Gilzean really isn’t his name.

One of the best things about this Cherry character for now is that she’s not so beholden to the DC Universe or Batman canon as many others are on the show. As a result of that, we’ve got a feeling that almost anything could happen to her. Maybe that is not so great for her long-term viability, but it could be great to us as a viewer of the show.

As for another important bit of casting information, the site also confirms now that Benjamin Stockham of the short-lived (but very entertaining) About a Boy is going to be appearing on the series in the role of a friend of Bruce Wayne who goes by the name of Alex Winthrop. He is the grandson of a museum curator, and he gets involved in the midst of a story with Bruce that could have some surprising consequences. In the event that you haven’t heard, David Mazouz’s character on this coming season is going to be finding himself at the center of more drama than usual as he starts to take on more of a vigilante role in the city.
