Blindspot season 3 spoilers: A new role for Zapata

Blindspot season 3

When Blindspot season 3 premieres, there’s going to be a time jump at the center of the story. A great deal will also have transpired at that point, and that includes many characters finding themselves in new positions. Zapata just so happens to be one of those people. She had a history of run-ins and difficult situations when the show was last on, so why wouldn’t she want to do something different? This is pretty realistic to real life in that if you’ve got a problem, odds are that you’re not going to continue to force yourself to deal with it.

This is ultimately why when the show picks back up, we’re going to see Zapata working over with the CIA as opposed to her previous stomping grounds at the FBI. Here is what Martin Gero, creator of the series, had to say on the matter to Entertainment Weekly:

“Zapata has been increasingly frustrated with how the FBI did business in the back half of the second season and so, for us, it made a lot of sense for her to just try something new and so she went over and started working with the CIA and this year … The FBI and the CIA will work together much closer. It’s not going to be as contentious as a relationship as it was in the first two seasons. They will be working in consort with each other.”

While it’s going to be strange not seeing Zapata around much of her fellow team members for a significant chunk of the season, there is a good bit of good that could come from this situation. For one, this could allow her to have more collaboration with the FBI on cases and bring in even more men and women to help. It’s strength in numbers, right? We also think that Gero and the writers are still going to find plenty of ways to integrate her into the story, given that this is an ensemble show and she has some chemistry with the other performers.

Will there be some other changes in Zapata’s life? You have to imagine so given that we are talking about a time jump of TWO YEARS. That’s no joke, and lives and relationships obviously change in that time. The more that the writers can tell the passage of time through characters’ emotions and actions, the better.

Remember that the third season of Blindspot will premiere later this fall, and there are many changes at hand. After all, the show is moving to a new night in Fridays! We’re also curious in learning how that will change the show, given that there may be viewership challenges that come with that.
