Big Brother 19 live feed spoilers: HoH Competition practice (day 57, afternoon)

HoH Competition

What is more exciting than a game of shuffleboard? Clearly, there is someone within Big Brother production that feels this way. Early this afternoon, the houseguests all got an opportunity to practice for what looks to be an upcoming HoH Competition — it’s possible that this is the one that will take place during the Double Eviction, but it could theoretically be the one that takes place after the fact and is off the feeds / the episode entirely. Typically, we don’t think that’s the case since that one usually is head-to-head and has a lot of brackets to it.

The practice game that they were given was a long wooden slab and then discs for them to sling down it. There are no targets or points listed here, but there probably will be during the competition. We’d call this curling, but there isn’t anyone trying to control the speed of the discs with a broom, so it’s pretty much shuffleboard.

For the record, this is also by and large a crapshoot that’s based largely on luck with a little bit of skill. If you’re calculated enough, you can use speed and geometry to help you to figure out where you want the disc to land. This is ultimately somewhat similar to the HoH that Josh won where it benefits you to go later in the competition so that you can start to see how some other people perform and handle it once the real game is afoot.

So who needs this win the most? That’s almost a no-brainer: Mark. Cody is heading home tomorrow night pending some miracle, and if Mark doesn’t win either this or the Veto, he will be following him right after. He seems keen on nominating Paul and Alex and letting the chips fall where they may; if this happens, it could be a huge shake-up for the game. Paul’s been the one controlling the narrative and even the emotions of the other players. Without him around, we could easily see things shake up and be a little bit crazier.

We said at this point a week ago that the best thing for the tone of this game would be to lose Cody, Jessica, and Paul — they were the three bringing it down the most, and we still feel that way. With them gone, everyone will be left more to their own devices. While Josh and Christmas can be forces for negativity in their own right, we do think with Paul around dictating things some of their status in the game will start to change.

Also, maybe we’re saying all of this as someone who’s more or less rooting for Mark and Elena to go far at this point given that they’re some of the better options out of a pretty weak field of sheep.
